iOS 8 Beta 1 Jailbreak Achieved – Update

As soon as iOS 8 beta 1 was released, attention turned straight to jailbreaking with users eager to know if it would be possible. Technically, that question cannot be fully answered until after the firmware has been released to the public – that won’t be until September. However, a preliminary look at it by i0n1c confirms that, at this stage, iOS 8 could be jailbroken.

IOS 8 is following in the footsteps of iOS 7, with a number of jailbreak tweaks being used as the basis for some of the new features. This has led some to believe that there won’t be a need for jailbreaking but there are still many who are looking forward to a brand new utility to play around with.
Not long back, i0n1c uploaded a video showing his iPhone 5C running an untethered jailbreak on iOS 7.1.1. Shortly after beta 1 was released he confirmed that it had not patched any of the exploits he used and he would be working on the code to see if the utility as fully compatible with iOS 8.

While he hasn’t given us a similar video to the last one, he has uploaded images to Twitter showing that, using his Mac, he has successfully accessed the root of iOS 8 on an iPod Touch 5 using SSH.
At the moment, he can only show that it works on a device with an A5 processor, while many of the latest devices are on an A7. However, we are only at the beginning and there is still much work to be done.

As with the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, i0n1c has not confirmed whether he will be making any of his exploits public or not. In all honesty, he probably won’t, simply because it would give Apple the edge and there would be a good chance that they would be patched well before the utility could be released.
iOS 8 was revealed at WWDC 2014, showing off a number of exciting new features. There will be support for third party keyboards for the first time ever, a Quick Reply feature for notifications, including on the lock screen, and many other features besides.
